Electric Actuators Boost Hygiene and Efficiency at JOSMAR Food Tech

JOSMAR Food Tech has replaced hydraulic systems with BJ-Gear’s electric actuators in their food processing machinery. The change improves hygiene, simplifies cleaning, and reduces maintenance. JOSMAR also gains better control of speed, positioning, and force, ensuring greater flexibility and customization. This collaboration shows how BJ-Gear’s electromechanical solutions help manufacturers meet strict industry demands while boosting competitiveness.

Benefits

Improved Hygiene and Food Safety

By replacing traditional hydraulic systems with BJ-Gear electric actuators, JOSMAR achieved significantly higher hygiene standards in their machinery. The new solution makes equipment easier to clean while eliminating the risk of hydraulic oil contaminati

Reduced Operating and Installation Costs

The transition from hydraulics to electromechanical actuators reduced overall system complexity and operating costs. JOSMAR no longer requires hydraulic power units, hoses, hydraulic oil, or extensive installation and adjustment work

Greater Precision and Machine Flexibility

BJ-Gear’s electric actuators gave JOSMAR far greater control over speed, positioning, torque, and applied force.

Company profile

Company profile

Founded in 1976, Talleres Josmar initially focused on the design and repair of fish processing machinery. During the mid-1980s, subsidiaries were established in Namibia (Walvis Bay) and Argentina (Puerto Madryn) to support clients’ fleets in those fishing grounds.

In 1998, INPROMAR was founded—specializing in the development of comprehensive solutions for the fish processing industry, both land-based and onboard fishing vessels.

Today, the Josmar Group employs nearly 100 professionals, all dedicated to supporting their clients with advanced machinery solutions.

Problem Statement

JOSMAR Food Tech faced increasing challenges in meeting modern hygiene requirements within the food processing industry. Their machinery traditionally relied on hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic power units, which are difficult to clean and maintain in hygienic production environments. In addition to hygiene concerns, hydraulic systems introduced higher maintenance complexity through hoses, oil, and supporting components. JOSMAR therefore needed a cleaner, more flexible, and more efficient alternative that could comply with strict food industry standards while improving machine performance and customization possibilities.

Solution

BJ-Gear supplied stainless steel electric actuators as an electromechanical replacement for JOSMAR’s traditional hydraulic systems. The actuators enabled JOSMAR to redesign existing machinery with a solution that is easier to clean, more hygienic, and simpler to integrate. By replacing hydraulic cylinders with electric actuators, JOSMAR achieved more precise control over speed, positioning, torque, and applied force, while also reducing the need for hydraulic power units, hoses, and oil. The modular design and straightforward implementation ensured a smooth transition and supported JOSMAR’s goal of developing more efficient and customizable food processing equipment.
